Dark matter, incorrectly referred to as "missing matter", is a huge chunk of the Universe (95%) undetected by any part of the electromagnetic spectrum. The known mass is not enough to hold a cluster of galaxies together. So astronomers believe that there is dark matter, not typical matter or dust, but some unknown exotic form of matter.
