CHAPTER 3
INPUT AND INTERACTION

 Input Devices

The interactive era in computer graphics was started by  Ivan Sutherland with the innovative use of the  sketchpad for his Ph.D. thesis at M.I.T. in 1963.

                                                                  simulations, the basis for
                                                                  computer graphics, computer
                                                                  aided design (CAD), and
                                                                  interactive pilot training
                                                                  simulators widely used in
                                                                  military and commercial
                                                                  aviation.
Ivan Sutherland An electronics engineer, Ivan Sutherland was one of the earliest pioneers in computer graphics. He is also credited with the development of the first head-mounted display, today an integral part of many virtual reality systems.
Input Devices

Input devices could be visualized as Physical devices based on suitable properties and the manner of their operation and as logical devices where the properties are specified in terms of what they do from the perspective of the application program.

The physical devices are the keyboard and the pointing devices such as the mouse and the trackball.  The motion of the ball
